Today I did a shoot for a charitable organisation. I couldn’t sleep for some bizarre reason last night, and I had to roll out of bed at 5am. Every bit of me wanted to just not get up. I was exhausted, and just plain not feeling up for driving across Sydney in the dark.
But I did anyway. My organisation the night before came to my present self’s bleary rescue. My gear was packed and ready to go. Into the car, stopping only for coffee. I must point out at this point that my geographically challenged self managed to get to the location without a single wrong turn. Go me!
Once I was there, I felt much better. Probably the adrenalin that always kicks in for me when I do a shoot.
However, beyond the adrenaline was an amazing reward. Speaking to the people who received the benefit of the charity events was so rewarding. This amazing knowledge that you are able-bodied and to whom much is given, much is also required.
I suppose we don’t generally walk around thinking that because we’re able bodied that we’ve been given much, but it’s true.
By donating your talents, time or money to a worthwhile charity, you’ll find that you get so much more than you give. At the very least, it’s a brilliant cure for the case of the common ‘poor me’s’.
